I hated running at school! I always found ways of skivving off anything to do with athletics because running just felt damn painful! BUT my first Personal Training client (he was 60 I was 25) helped me (the trainer!) to get into it slowly and now I am so grateful! Even a 20 minute run gets me sweating a little, breathing a little harder and feeling like my sluggish blood has been moved. Some days I am slow and even have to walk a little, some days I am full of energy and can run for 40 minutes without any stops! The great thing is I do not have to drive to gym, all I need is my running shoes, my MP3 (and if the battery is dead I have been able to run without it!) and just that little bit of willpower to get out the house! Once I am on the road and I find my rhythm it just flows. I know many of you will be either sniggering at me or thinking ,"not me, not in this lifetime!" but nothing makes your day like a bit of exercise and for so many of us THERE IS NOT ENOUGH TIME becomes an easy excuse! Just try it - if you are unfit, start with a power walk and throw in little jogs for short spurts - you will be suprised how the discomfort of the early sessions gives way to, "Wow! I am feeling fitter!" after a few weeks. Just get out there 3 times a week and get moving!
