Devan Hendricks is one of Teva's first male dance students from Ocean View to have gone on to tertiary dance and theatre training. He lived with Teva for 6 months during which time she coached him through his final Matric exams and assisted him to audition for CAPA (Cape Academy of Performing Arts) where he is now on scholarship. He has since moved back home with his family but continues to be supported and mentored by Teva. Part of her fundraising work is to help him cover costs not included in his scholarship such as transport, costumes and dance gear and funds needed for performance tours.

Nicole Plaatjies joined Teva's classes in her Matric year in Ocean View with only Hip Hop in her dance background. She taught Hip Hop for Teva and trained in Contemporary Dance for a year to prepare herself for auditions. During that time she became a valuable assistant to the TKAP team by sewing costumes, choreographing for shows and teaching youngsters from her community. She has just completed her final year with La Rosa, a Spanish Dance Tertiary Training program and is working as a freelance assistant stage manager, teacher and performer. |

Their Contemporary Dance training is based on a combination of Graham Technique and Release work and incoporates standing exercises to increase strength, precision, balance and alignment; floorwork exercises for core strength, flexibility and released joints and travelling work for fluidity, style, power and elevation. They also have opportunities to explore their own movement vocabulary through improvisation and choreography. |
